Pollachi was known as "pozhilvaichi" which means "the land of natural wealth and prosperity. Pollachi is a town and a taluk headquarters of Coimbatore Rural district of the Tamil Nadu state in India. It lies in the southern part of the Coimbatore city around 40 kilometres from downtown Coimbatore. Pollachi is very popular for its markets, especially for jaggery, coconut, fresh vegetables and cattle. The Jaggery market in Pollachi is Asia's largest of its kind.
